BIO:

Sergio received a B.S. in Chemistry at California State University, Bakersfield where he synthesized new metal chelating calix[4]pyrroles for potential environmental and bioinorganic applications under the direction of Professor Andreas Gebauer.

He then obtained a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry under Seth M. Cohen at the University of California, San Diego where he developed strategies for post-synthesis modification (PSM) of porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and used these materials heterogeneous MOF catalysts.

Research focus: 

My research focuses on the synthesis and utilization of functionalized aromatic porous organic polymers (POPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for catalytic applications.
